Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Technology, Indore for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme starting from July 2011 in the following disciplines:

Eligibility  Criteria

Ph.D in Engineering: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering For admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Engineering Disciplines, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • Masters degree in the relevant branch of Engineering/ Technology with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
  • Masters degree in the relevant branch of Science with a valid GATE score.
  • B. Tech. degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0.
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or technology from any other Institute with a valid GATE score.

Ph.D in Sciences: (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) For admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Science Disciplines, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • M.Phil degree in relevant branch of science with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% marks.
  • Masters degree in a Science subject with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks with CSIR-JRF or NET; or UGC-JRF or NET.
  • Masters degree in relevant branch of Engineering/ Technology with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
  • B.Tech. from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0.

Ph.D in Economics, English and Philosophy: Economics, English and Philosophy For admission to the Ph.D. Programme in Economics, English and Philosophy, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • M.Phil degree in relevant discipline of Arts or Commerce
  •  Masters degree in Arts/ Commerce with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent with UGC-JRF or NET.
  • Masters degree in Science/Engineering/Agriculture/Environmental Science/ International Business with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks with UGC-JRF or NET may be considered for research areas consistent with the academic background and special interests.
  •  B.Tech. from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0.

Note: Eligibility Committee will examine applications by candidates with foreign qualification

Selection Criteria

The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test and/or interview, based on performance in GATE/NET, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc.
Reservations: The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for persons with disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to produce certificate and self declaration statement.

Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
Financial Support:
The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The students are encouraged and expected to complete the programme in about four years time. The period of validity of Ph.D. registration for all candidates is six years from the date of confirmation of registration (which commences after successful completion of course credit requirements). However, the extension of fellowship for the entire duration of Ph.D. is not automatic and is subject to institute rules. As part of the training, Ph.D. students are expected to assist in running the undergraduate labs and in other teaching and research assistance.

There is NO application fees. Filled in application forms should be sent to the Convener, Ph.D. Admissions, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, M-Block, IET, DAVV Campus, Khandwa Road, Indore, 452017, M.P., to reach on or before April 15, 2011. Candidates should send the completed application in one envelope and on top of it write: `Application for Ph.D. admission in the Discipline of _________` . Candidates applying for more than one discipline should submit a separate application for each discipline.
