The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is an autonomous organization set up by the Government of India to advise and assist the Ministry of Human Resource Development at the center, and Education Departments of States/Union Territories in formulation and implementation of their policies and major programmes in the field of education, particularly for qualitative improvement of school education. Among several activities, the NCERT and its constituent units undertake, aid, promote and coordinate research in areas related to school education.

The NCERT has brought out National Curriculum Framework 2005 (NCF-2005), which has enabled a fresh discourse and new ideas on education in India. With a focus on the child, NCF-2005 stresses the need for a perspective on how children learn and environments to enable this process within larger concerns of equality and justice in a democratic society. The document further emphasizes the understanding of curricular and pedagogic practices, and social and cultural factors that influence and mediate these processes in diverse contexts. There is a need to develop a body of knowledge that enhances our understanding of the concerns expressed in NCF-2005. Towards this end, the NCERT intends to offer fellowships, named as NCERT Doctoral Fellowships, for conducting research at the doctoral level.

Applications are invited for the award of ACQUIRE Postgraduate Scholarship Programme 2011 from 1st year PG students in Social Science disciplines studying in University departments or affiliated colleges (Government and Aided colleges) in the State. The ACQUIRE Scholarship Programme is an initiative by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala and coordinated by the School of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University. The aim of the programme for postgraduate students is to inculcate research aptitude among the students by encouraging them to undertake research projects in various disciplines in social sciences. Eminent scholars from within the Country will act as Project Advisors. This will help the students to broaden their knowledge regarding various social issues and to deepen their understanding of the theoretical practices in social sciences. For broad based theoretical studies, collaboration with scholars in Universities within India and abroad will be ensured. First year Postgraduate students of social sciences in the University Departments and Affiliated Colleges in Kerala are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The selected students could identify a scholar of eminence within the country as Project Advisor (the academic committee for social sciences will prepare a panel of eminent scholars within India and abroad for this purpose, which will be published in the website) and a scholar in the universities or colleges as project consultant. The Postgraduate student scholar shall be the Project Director and the undergraduate students of the colleges shall be taken as Research Assistants. This will help the undergraduate student to brush up their talents and to have deeper understanding of research methodology in social sciences. The project will be for a period of up to 3 to 4 months. The projects will be allotted subject to the approval by expert committees constituted and a maximum of Rs. 50,000 would be allotted to each project. The principal of the college and the project consultant shall ensure effective utilization of the funds.

  • Settlement Allowance: Awardees will be paid 200,000 won upon arrival.
  • Language Training Expenses: the NllED will pay the entrusted language training institution the full cost up to 1year.
  • Tuition Fees: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.
  • Dissertation Printing Costs: Up to 500,000-800,000 won, depending on the actual costs, will be reimbursed for the costs related to a dissertation printing.
  • Medical Insurance: 15000 won per month ( limited Insurance coverage) will be provided to the university for students.
  • Special funding for scholars who are proficient in the Korean Language(T0PIK Level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month commencing from degree programme.

The University Grants Commission, on the basis of a initiative of M/HRD, had introduced the scheme of Post-Graduate Merit Scholarship Scheme for University rank holders with the objective of attracting talents for pursuing post-graduate studies. The scheme is for non-professional courses only. The selection will be purely on merit basis. The awardees under this scheme can pursue their Post-Graduate programme in any area of specialization and also in any institution of higher learning in the country recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.

Science: Students presently studying in 1st year B.Sc ( Preferably with PCM ).
As part of its Science Outreach Programme, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research has initiated a new programme, Project Oriented Chemical Education (POCE), for students studying in B. Sc first year (PCM) to explore their potentials, to stimulate genuine interest in science and infuse creativity and scientific temper amongst undergraduate students. Selected students will be given an opportunity to involve in programmes such as lectures, laboratory projects and research. The programme will be conducted during summer vacation for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Students selected are expected to work at the Centre for three consecutive summers and successful candidates will receive diploma in chemistry from the Centre. Whenever possible, students will be allowed to work in the Centre during mid-semester vacations as well. Specialization in advanced materials will be possible during the last year.

Note: Those who complete the POCE programme with outstanding performance will be eligible for admission to the MS/PhD programme in the Centre subject to satisfactory performance in the interview.
